Euro Cup I

Introduction

This was the first Euro Cup to be contested and it was played after World Cup VIII. There were a total of 40 teams who took part in the competition; all of the UEFA sides who had participated in World Cup VIII qualifying (execpt Israel, who played in Asian Cup I instead) and debutants Albania, Belarus, Estonia, and Lithuania. Also, Latvia returned for their first competition since World Cup VI.
